Leaves, twigs and grass - making art from nature.
This is an excerpt from my book “It’s Only Painting - The Maker’s Book”.
You can create some very interesting art at the local copy shop. Gather found organic materials like grasses, flower petals, bark and leaves. Your materials should be somewhat flat, no more than ⅛” in depth.
Place your items on the copy machine and cover with a towel. This will prevent any light from leaking in while you make the copy. Close the cover of the copy machine but don’t force it. Be sure to clean the copy machine when you finish.
Make a copy or two of your items. Cut up the copy into different segments. Copy the segments again at different magnifications.
Trace the resulting images with markers or colored pencils, overlapping, flipping and rotating to create multiple compositions.
You can also collage the copies.
Color in with pastel, colored pencils or acrylic paint.
