Size doesn't matter. Really.

Recently when I was reading the weekly post from ArtNews, I came across this artist: Megan Greene.

To get a full page mention in ArtNews is a big deal. Really. And I also noticed that her pieces are smallish, colored pencil on paper. Why am I bringing this up? Because over and over again I hear students downplay their work because it’s pencil on paper, or collage, or small format. As if the only “real” art is a huge canvas covered in paint.

If you read my last post, you’ll know that it really ticks me off when people define what is art by some arbitrary characteristic, like size or medium.

So the next time you are wondering if the work you do is "real" art just remember that ArtNews gave Megan Greene a full page.
