Subtractive - Additive Part Two

Keep your colors thin! You can always add more layers but really, really try to make the layers of color as thin and transparent as possible. This will give your painting a depth and luminosity that can't be achieved with opaque layers of color.

If you live in a dry or hot climate, you may need to add a little Acrylic Glazing Liquid to the first layer of paint (Hansa Yellow) to keep it wet long enough to put down the Acrylic Glazing Liquid.

The real key here is to get the paint down and BEFORE IT DRIES, get the Acrylic Glazinq Liquid lines down on top of it. Then let the paint dry and pickup the Glazinq Liquid before it dries.

Conversely, if you live in a cool, damp climate, you may need to wait a lot longer between layers. If you put down a layer on top of a layer that is not dry enough, you will potentially pickup the layer beneath. When in doubt, WAIT between layers.

Be sure to download the Workbook for this technique (both parts) below the videos in Subtractive Additive Part One.
