Subtractive - Additive Part One
When painting the background, mix the paint on the surface is a loose, painterly fashion. Don't premix your colors on the palette.
Be sure to limit your colors to just two, with Titanium White and Carbon Black added later. This will give you plenty of tints and shades to work with.
