Module 10 - Open Your Store

Putting It All Together

You did it! The day has come to open your store and welcome your customers. This module is a recap of everything we’ve covered as well as a list of what you need to check before you flip that Open sign over!

Get your “coming soon” page ready and ask for emails. As long as your store is password protected you have an automatic “coming soon” page. Just open your store, go to “customize” and drop down “pages.” You will see “password page.” Customize your password page by using the left menu.

Check the links in your store. Module 5.

  1. Be sure your domain name is correct and working. Check it in an incognito window. Follow this link and learn how to go incognito.

  2. Check all the links in your store from an incognito window.

  3. Check your store on mobile and in a browser different from the one you ordinarily use.

Make a test order. Module 4.

  1. You’ve probably done this already. If not do it right away! It’s not a good idea to open your store until you have actually ordered something from your vendor and received it.

  2. Also go through a test (bogus) order to see what your customer experiences with notifications, etc. For complete details on creating a test (bogus) order see this Shopify help page.

Make sure your products are available. Module 3. Be sure you have the correct sales channel chosen for each product and collection.

Check your store for typos. This is called content review and it’s best done backwards. In other words, start reading at the bottom of the paragraph or end of the sentence. You’ll find typos easily if you read the content in reverse.

Make sure all of your images are optimized. Module 6. Your store will load faster and customers won’t click away. You can use the app from Hextom for Bulk Edit

Check your meta tags. Module 3.

  1. Are the meta tags and SEO correct for all of your products? Is your store meta information correct? To set up the meta tags for your store go to “preferences.”

  2. Double check your product URLs. Are they too long? Here’s a great blog post by Neil Patel all about SEO and URLs.

To set up the meta tags for products go to each product page and scroll down.

Review all of your store settings. Module 4. This includes taxes, shipping, and legal. Double check your payment processor. Make sure your billing (how you pay Shopify) is set up properly. Make sure all notifications settings are properly formatted and set appropriately.
